A ‘Side Hustle’ is essentially a way to earn ‘extra’ income. For most people, myself included, this is a part-time gig that allows you to work on your own time (outside of your ‘regular’ work schedule, and around your family time - kids, homework, cooking, cleaning, laundry… etc.)
At the moment, I am a full-time middle school teacher, but my ‘Side Hustle’ is being a momtrepreneur (mom + entrepreneur).
Historically, teachers, especially in Louisiana where I reside, make just enough money to cover the important bills. However, realistically speaking, that is not enough when you have a family of five and a goal of Financial Freedom.
According to www.investopedia.com Financial freedom generally means having enough savings, investments, and cash on hand to afford the lifestyle we want for ourselves and our families—and a growing nest egg that will allow us to retire or pursue the career we want without being driven by earning a certain amount each year.
So why not just get a job with more pay? Simple. I LOVE TEACHING! I love ALL my ‘extra’ kids, and I especially love the look on their faces when they finally ‘get it.’ (whatever ‘it’ is that I am teaching that day 😁)
Close your eyes and imagine this scenario: Working at your DREAM job because you WANT to, not because you HAVE TO.
Enter: The ‘Side Hustle(s?)’
When choosing a mode of earning more income, I think it’s important to ask yourself a few questions; What are you passionate about? Is it something that you can do ‘on your own schedule?’ Will the income be worth your time?
This last question is important because your TIME will always be your MOST VALUABLE possession.
It is also important to note that your ‘side hustle’ may not make you an overnight millionaire, and several independent streams of income require more effort in the beginning to become more prosperous later on 😊.
As I mention in all of my blogs, I am a licensed representative of Primerica Life. As an independent agent, I set my own hours around my already hectic life, while achieving the company mission of ‘helping families earn more income, and become properly protected, debt free, and financially independent.’ For more information on working with Primerica as an independent agent, Schedule your appointment now.
But why stop at one? This blog is also my 'side hustle.’ The product links I use on my pages, most of which are for products that I use myself, are also a source of income. I created this blog to share valuable lessons that I have learned throughout my journey toward achieving Financial Freedom. It is my hope that others in my community can learn from these experiences, and utilize some of the same tools and resources that I use, to help them achieve their own goals.
On that note, if you have absolutely NO IDEA what could possibly be YOUR ‘side hustle,’ I have added the link to an article by Side Hustle Nation (Yes, that’s an actual community) with “99 Side Hustle Ideas You Can Start Today,” at the end of this article.
Also, Don’t be too hard on yourself! I have had other ‘side hustles’ in the past that did not work out for various reasons. It may take a few tries to find something that works for YOU.
There are soooo many GREAT books out there for people who want to Do Better (whatever ‘Better’ looks like for you), but one of my favorites is 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. The principles outlined in this book are relevant to EVERYONE.
And lastly, time management is KEY. Remember I said that your TIME is your most VALUABLE possession. So managing that time should be one of your top priorities. I use the Happy Planner to keep my teaching, hustling, and parenting activities organized, thus keeping myself FOCUSED throughout the day. Another post on Planning With Purpose coming soon 😉.
